Foreign Body Removal from the Ear Canal Sometimes, objects can accidentally enter the ear canal. This may happen when cleaning with cotton buds, or when something crawls or falls into the ear. Whatever the cause, it can be an unpleasant experience. What to Do: • Do not try to remove the object yourself. Attempting this at home can push the object deeper and cause injury. • If the foreign body is an insect, tilt your head to one side and gently pour room-temperature olive oil into the ear canal. This usually suffocates the insect. If it does not float out, you will need to book an appointment for safe removal.
